Snack tour: Za edition

Something momentous happened in NYC that will change everything forever and it’s all thanks to snacks.

The decades long argument about the superiority of Chicago pizza to NY pizza can be resolved with one observation that my band mate Gillian uttered on our way into NY.

“A NY slice is a snack” she said.

Yes! Chi and NY za aren’t even in the same category. There is no need for them to directly compete. All we have to do (as a culture) is accept that NY pizza is not a meal. It is a snack.

And what a great snack it is. I had 2 slices when I was in Brooklyn. One was really mediocre and one was really good. Both were satisfying snacks that allowed me to take a break from that busy, hectic NY lifestyle, eat something yummy, and then go back to complaining about tourists coming to the coolest city on Earth and pointing out how something in the neighborhood I was in isn’t as cool as it was 5 years ago.

Thanks Gillian. You’ve saved us all from pointless arguments. Now we can just all enjoy whatever pizza we prefer.

Happy snacking,

Seth

NSFM - Day 27

Featured snack: Pizzeria Pretzel Combos

Rating: 999 Looks like we made its

Review: I’ve written about my love of Combos before so I won’t spend time here detailing the many ways that they encapsulate and reinforce my snacking values. Instead, I’ll just simply point out that after 26 days of regular daily snacking, as I was trolling the aisles of 7-11 to find a snack to feature on the penultimate day of NSFM 2011, and even though I had already enjoyed them literally hundreds of times before, this is still the bag I reached for. Now that is love.
